Event Details

Farm2Families, the new signature event from SFA Greater Mille Lacs Chapter, is set for 3-7 p.m. Sat., Aug. 26, at the Heimark Farm, 33683 Dove St, Aitkin. A community event founded by your local farmers, Farm2Families features a locally sourced dinner, live music, a farmers’ market, family activities, farm demonstrations and educational speakers.

Learn about sustainable farming practices while enjoying entertainment, fellowship and a dinner featuring ingredients produced by Aitkin-area farmers: pulled pork and chicken, vegetables, potatoes, coleslaw, corn and cucumber salad.

Presentations include:

  • Scott Kittelson and Tom Gervais of USDA-NRCS will present a fascinating demonstration of how different agricultural practices affect a soil’s ability to handle rain
  • Liz and Kate Short, members of the Ripple River Bee Club, will teach basic bee biology, how to help bees stay healthy and what it takes to become a beekeeper
  • Peggy Jones of American Peat Technology will discuss the manufacture of value-added peat products for use in the agriculture and water treatment industries.

Tickets are $5 for festival entry and $15 for dinner. Kids under 10 get in and eat free with adult ticket purchase.

Buy tickets online here or at Gramma’s Pantry, 223 Minnesota Ave N, Aitkin.
